Yet another epic classic from the 2007 Minnesota State Fair, this one coming around 6 p.m. and well after the day had found its stride. The sightings were coming at an almost dizzying pace by this hour and it was becoming clear that 2006’s robust numbers were no fluke as I already crossed the century mark for sightings on the day. The sighting with which I passed the century threshold was merely mediocre as was sighting #101, but as I passed the northwest corner of the beer gardens I hit 24-karat gold….
In the course of less than 20 seconds, I would observe not only Sighting #102 of the day, but also Sighting #103, #104, #105, #106, #107, AND #108……all in one fell swoop. Seven incredibly hot college age babes, each wielding cigarettes. I counted four of them in my initial pass, but three more of the group of eight proceeded to light themselves up in the seconds to come. Only one girl of the eight was not smoking during the course of my observation. I don’t ever recall seeing a cluster of hotties this large simultaneously smoking at the State Fair or any other venue for that matter, and more than a decade after getting this sighting I haven’t come across another group of smoking ladies this large.
All of the girls were stunners, decked out in stiletto heels and dressed in glamorous attire, clearly all out to impress on their night at the state fair, but three of them really stood out. A dark-haired brunette who was the prettiest in the group, a light brunette who was also stunning, and an uber-glamorous blond who wasn’t the kind of natural beauty the other two were but compensated for it with a skimpy brown leather top and short skirt. I’m a sucker for this kind of outfit, so I gotta say she was my favorite of the bunch. I was grateful to have a couple of minutes to take this all in, standing there and beholding the scenery and the incessant exhalation of smoke coming from at least seven attractive female mouths. If there was a downside to this sighting, it was that it was impossible to give any single girl the focus she deserved because there were so many of them smoking.
The cluster of girls left their spot near the beer gardens and walked northward in unison. The sheer number of nicotine addicts meant a permanent trail of fumes was left in their aftermath and it was an absolute joy getting the chance to walk through tailwinds amidst the clicking of the girls’ high-heeled footwear proceeding down the pavement. It really struck me how amazing this day was going for me as I broke away from this cluster of addicted hotties….and walked away from this sighting with a sensation of not only satisfaction because of the epic sighting, but relief that my ongoing paranoia of the perils of continued anti-tobacco legislation rendering the habit obsolete. It wasn’t gonna happen if these girls had anything to say about it.
